"LADIES FIRST” is a highly anticipated group art activation set to make its grand entrance on
Thursday, November 2nd of 2023 | 6pm - 9pm INDUSTRY CITY at the TANYA WEDDEMIRE.
The exhibition will feature the works of six talented artists:
Danielle Scott
Anne Bascove
Michela Roman
Candice Tavares
Katie Kuzin
Tania Whalen
“Ladies First” will showcase the works of six multidisciplinary women artists from diverse backgrounds whose works include sculptures, ceramics, mixed media collages, paintings on canvas, and mixed media on panel. The title “Ladies First” was adopted in admiration for the song “Ladies First” by Queen Latifah and Monie Love, which expresses the power of womanhood using rhythmic flow and lyrical depth to uplift and educate listeners. In this Activation, these talented ladies unite to showcase the depth and intricacy of their craftsmanship and artistry. They each offer a unique perspective on growth, divinity, and distress and explore the diverse ways it presents itself in the world.
Upon entering this exhibition you will be greeted with emotions of serenity, love, laughter, and periods of reflection that may feel individualized, but are truly communal.

In Paris, living by the Seine, she started drawing bridges, an obsession that only intensified on her return to NYC. “From an early age I learned that the world only makes sense to me through art. My love of my City and fascination with science, architecture, and literature has always driven my explorations. I love to share that exhilaration and curiosity through my work.”
I sculpt the body in unnatural poses to explore our psychological realities through our physical bodies. Our emotions are held within our bodies: the way we hold ourselves, whether that is with straight strong postures or hunched-in closed shoulders conveys distinct and specific emotions of a person, essentially a peek into their psyches.
Our subconscious minds cause impactful body reactions, most of which are so complex that it's difficult to fully describe in words alone. In my practice, I aim to describe the indescribable; to create a visual clarity around the uncertainties of our mind and body connections.
