Tanya Weddemire Gallery proudly presents a collective exhibition titled "SUPERPOWERS" at the 2024 Art on Paper 10th Edition.
The exhibition will feature all-new works from three renowned artists and their series:
"PLAYTIME" by GREGORY SAINT AMAND, "JUSTUS" by SERRON GREEN and GIVE US OUR FLOWERS" by GUY STANLEY PHILOCHE.
The exhibition poses the compelling question, 'What is your Superpower?' This motif invites individuals to uncover their inner superheroes, discover the unique power of their individuality and celebrate what makes them extraordinary. Whether it's your ability to inspire, create, or bring joy, recognize the superpowers within us all. This exhibition encourages everyone to embrace their unique qualities and use them to positively impact the world.
From September 5th to 8th, 2024, Art on Paper New York City Pier 36, immerse yourself in this exclusive showcase, where art and individuality converge through the distinctive yet harmonious expressions of our featured visionaries.
Gregory Saint Amand, also known as GOGO, is a contemporary and figurative American and Haitian artist. He was born in New York but spent much of his early formative years growing up in Haiti. His perspective on what speaks to human consciousness and understanding, the visual lexicons that influence our communication and culture, is gentle but observantly powerful in its nature. He displays his conversation with art, loving to paint in layers to open the canvas and its limits, bringing about a never-ending exploration. His signature vision is evident in the work, which uses bright colors, inks, and other intriguing mediums and details. He plays with ideas that carry weight and then juxtaposes them with more light-hearted subjects. GOGO attended and graduated from The Cooper Union School of Art. His work has been featured in multiple venues and publications such as the Huffington Post, Scope, The Grio, Crème, Art Voice, 101 Top Artist, and MILK mag, to name a few.

Raised in Newark, New Jersey, at the height of the Black Power Movement and during the eighties, as became the newest form of self-expression, Serron Green, aka xplorefreedom, realized early on, the joining of these ideals would be the inspiration for his work. The self-taught artist began experimenting with graffiti during the eighties and nineties. He began incorporating different mediums such as markers, watercolor, and even house paint—with spray paint always remaining a constant. Since then, he has broadened his scope of work to include materials such as reclaimed wood, rich textiles, and many other unconventional items. 2009 was a pivotal year for the artist. He began creating work for formal exhibitions at the urging of friends, fellow artists, and collectors. Pieces created in the years prior were sold by word-of-mouth through a broadening circle that created an increasingly steady demand. He currently lives and works in Newark—a limitless source of inspiration. His travels across Europe, The Caribbean, and North and South America have significantly impacted how he sees the world around him, and each discovery of a new locale, its traditions, and culture strengthens his belief that art truly has the power to invoke change in the world.

Haitian-born modern artist Guy Stanley Philoche immigrated to Connecticut when he was three years old. As the middle child of three boys and from a family of sports enthusiasts whose passion he didn’t share, Philoche turned to art as his calling. While remaining close to his Haitian Roots, Philoche was the only son to buck his culture’s tradition of the entire family living together and struck out on his own – first attending Paier College of Art and then Yale. He now lives in New York City. For the past 15 years, Guy Stanley Philoche has been attracting international attention with his work and his impressive roster of solo shows. As an artist, Guy’s palette is strong and sophisticated. His layering technique has created a body of works so richly textured that one can hardly hold back from reaching out and touching them. It is the artist’s intent and wishes that the viewer will follow their desire to reach out and feel the different textures in his works.
